Clover (Red)
Pea Family
(Trifolium pratense )

The magenta and white round head of the Red Clover is familiar to all. Red Clover grows from six to thirty inches tall in fields and along paths and roads. The stem is covered with soft white hairs. The leaf has three parts, and each leaflet has a lighter green triangular shape in the middle. There is a light green, papery sheath on the stem from which new leaves grow. A close look at a freshly-opened head is a great reward. The points on the round head are actually perfect sweet-pea-like flowers with a magenta upper hood and a white three-lobed bottom lip.
