Chokecherry
Rose Family
(Prunus virginiana)

This shrub grows in woods, swamps, and along paths and roads - sometimes reaching a height of thirty feet. The flowers are very tiny, and are arranged in thick, cylinder-shaped clusters from three to six inches long. The thin leaves are from two to five inches long, are alternate, and have sharply toothed margins. The fruit is dark red in long, loose clusters. They are inedible as berries, but make excellent jelly.
